Identity management for cyber-physical production workflows and individualized manufacturing in Industry 4.0

Abstract:

Industry 4.0 envisions a digital transformation in the enterprise, entwining the cyber-physical world and real world of manufacturing to deliver networked production with enhanced process transparency. Production systems, smart
products, data analytics and business processes in the cloud will interact directly with customers to realize the ambitious goal of single lot individualized manufacturing. An immediate consequence of the paradigm shift is an increased risk for cyber-security breaches. This paper presents and evaluates the performance and scalability of an identity management solution for dataflow-oriented processes to guarantee the authenticity and trustworthy access of users, machines, products and business processes in Industry 4.0 production workflows that operate across the organizational boundaries of the enterprise.
